Floating Windmill

It’s been a long time since I’ve let my mind wander. Strange for a creative right?

For me, almost every time I pause to reflect on something, I get stressed out by the past (it’s something I’m working on). Usually, it’s some part of my family dynamic that causes me to grieve. Or an embarrassing thing I said eight years ago that just likes to haunt me. But reflection is important, even if it’s a little boring at times.

In fact, some of our best ideas are born out of times we set aside for silence and meditation. Embrace the absence of distractions. Be intentional about quieting the noise in the foreground and dig into the thoughts that have been floating around your subconscious. Face the uncomfortable things you’ve been trying to drown out with music, TV or social media. You really never know how creative you can get until you let your mind explore every possibility. Even the impossibilities.

Take just 5 minutes out of every day this week to sit in complete silence. You’d be amazed how creative and resourceful you really are. Thank you, Sarah and Emily, for being such great sisters. You inspire us in more ways than just your love of windmills.
